Polka dot obsession continues

polkadots Polka dot obsession continues

Oh my goodness, I can’t even handle the amazingness that is POLKA DOT JEANS!  I think they may be my favorite version of polka dots so far.  Since they’re so sweet and feminine, I’d balance them out with a simple striped tee and some solid booties.  And then I’d ride around town on a bike taking instagrams of everything I see. <— that really would happen because I’m addicted to instagram.

When it rains

rainy day When it rains

These last few days have been the kind where your Gmail gets hacked, your iPhone wipes clean, and you forget to wear rain boots on the rainiest, wettest day of the year.  Everything’s been going kind of haywire for me lately but guess what?  A new, Spring week is upon us and I’m going to wear colorful outfits, eat dark chocolate Cadbury eggs, decorate my apartment with ranunculus flowers, and keep trucking on.  Who’s with me?

Rugs make everything better

dining rug Rugs make everything better

It’s been awhile since I’ve shown a little corner of my apartment.  I think I might start doing that more often now that it’s much lighter when I get home from work.  Don’t you feel so much better about life when you leave work and it’s still light outside?  Like you can accomplish so many things with those extra few hours of sunshine?  Thank goodness for daylight savings.

Anyway, I know I’ve shared this dining corner before but I’m constantly changing things around in my apartment so I thought I’d share it again, this time with a big ol’ beautiful rug.

It’s a Maimana Kilim rug and I purchased it on BlueTeddy’s etsy super recently.  And by “super recently,” I mean I ordered it last Thursday and it arrived on Monday…from York, England.  Before I could even begin to process how fast that shipping was, this thought went through my mind: OH MY GOSH, YORK’S REALLY CLOSE TO DOWNTON ABBEY.

Dear rug, I dig you.  Warm regards, Janelle

Puppy love.

puppy dreamy Puppy love.

If you follow one of my 800 social media accounts, you’ve probably already seen this photo.  I posted it to every single one of them.  If not, ISN’T HE PRECIOUS?

Kyle’s friend’s husky recently had 7 puppies (born on Valentine’s Day!) so we innocently went to visit them this weekend.  Ok, not so innocently because we’ve been wanting a puppy real bad.  It didn’t help that I absolutely fell in love with this little guy.  Don’t get me wrong, ALL the puppies were ridiculously cute but I clicked with this one, ya know?

We have 4 more weeks to decide if we’re ready for a puppy.  Good decision?  Bad decision??

Either way, he has my heart.  Ahhh, puppy love.

Friday love list

It’s supposed to rain pretty heavily this weekend so I’m going to try my best to stay indoors and only eat things high in fat content.  To keep warm, you know?  Here are a few things I loved this week:

….ACTUALLY, before we discuss my fave things, I would like put it out there that my posting has been infrequent and sucky lately.  I hate when that happens so I’m going to try much harder to create better content on this here thing.  PROMS.  Okay, now onto the love list:

Happy weekending! x

The Globe Hunt

globe hunt The Globe Hunt

What was once the globe hunt of 2010 turned into the globe hunt of 2011 and THEN the globe hunt of 2012.  That’s a lot of globe hunting.  But holy moly pants, I found one.

I had lots of requirements for my world globe, which is probably why it took so long to find.  First, it needed to be that aqua shade of blue, as seen above.  Then I needed a crack- and ripped-free globe body.  I also appreciated a little outdated world map to up it’s vintage factor.  Let me tell you, all these requirements combined are hard to come by.  But the most difficult aspect of globe hunting is the stand it rests on.  Most of them look super cheap and crappy.  It needed to, at the very least, LOOK like it wasn’t made of cheap plastic.

So after many years of searching, I found the perfect one and for the cheapest price I’ve come across so far ($25) at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.  That’s a win-win in my book.

ALERT: Total unrelated story ahead and only read if you are a rapid Hunger Games fan:
So on Monday, this little lady was able to go to the Hunger Games premiere with work – yahoo!!  Wanted to let you know that the movie was WONDERFUL and it does the book a great justice.  Absolutely amazing.  I was laughing, crying, gasping, Team Gale-ing, then Team Peeta-ing, then back to Team Gale at the after-party, etc., etc.

Not that this movie needs any help at all gathering moviegoers, but honestly, GO see it.  Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz alone are reasons why you must go see it.  Happy Hunger Games!!

Rose Bowling

On Sunday, we did a little Rose Bowl flea action.  We’re not the best flea market pickers and we kind of wander around aimlessly, but hey!  I FINALLY found a perfect globe on the cheap so I’m one happy camper.  Other than that, we just thumbed through lots of trinkets, tried to barter down an $800 rug (no dice), enjoyed the gorgeous day, and eyed other people’s loot enviously.

Also, I didn’t take that many photos but here’s what I should have snapped:
+the hundreds of beautiful kilim rugs that I would have DIED to get my hands on had they not been so expensive
+Natalie Portman with her new baby and husband
+custom floor-length mirrors that I wanted so badly
+the sold sign on a vintage turquoise electric fan that I almost tried to steal
+all the potted succulents for sale

  • You guys, the Hunger Games movie is almost out.  So soon!  This weekend, I plan to reread the book since I haven’t read it in about 2 years.
  • Oh man, these tofu spring rolls look so easy and delicious.  Can’t wait to try them out.
  • These Zara sandals are too adorable to pass up.
  • Chocolate-covered marshmallow cookies.  I’m on it.
  • My new camera bag finally arrived at my parents’ house and I am SO EXCITED to pick it up.  It was a birthday gift from my family and has been on backorder all this time.  It’s finally here, woop woop!

This weekending I’m keeping it simple.  How about you?

I want to go to there: Paris

virtual paris I want to go to there: Paris

Sometimes I like to virtually pack for vacations even when I have no intentions of going there.  I sure would love to be in Paris right now, who’s with me?  Indulging in fresh baguettes and macarons, taking in the breathtaking sites, and shopping endlessly for days upon days.  Let’s go!

Here are just a few items I would bring with me to the beautiful city of Paris:

dress / umbrella / blazer / perfume / clutch / watch / sunglasses / oxfords

*PS – that photo is of moi in Paris circa 2009…you know, when doing the “kiss face” was SUPER COOL.

On civic duties & Madewell Spring 2012

Two things.

Item, numero 1: Yesterday, I had jury duty.  I really had high hopes of spending the day watching TV shows on my iPad, but alas, the government only supplies the cheap-o internet and there wasn’t enough bandwidth to go around.  No seriously, I could barely check my gmail.  Pinterest?  Forget about it.  Instead, I spent the day reading YA novels.  You guys, I may be a 25 year old woman with pending wrinkles, but I really enjoy my young adult novels.  I can’t help it.  Don’t hate.  So yes, I read entire books about dystopian lands filled with teenage angst and unrequited love.

Item, numero 2: I’m really digging the new Madewell Spring 2012 lookbook.  It’s full of soft shades of pink and blue, grays and whites, lace and florals.  I’m ready for spring now!  Here are some of my favorite looks (and details) from the Madewell catalogue:
